The 2020 Anaperenna Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon pours an iridescent magenta in the glass. On the nose, there are layers of sweet vanilla oak, raspberries at the height of the season, fresh licorice root, star anise, fresh cut fennel and cracked black peppercorns. In the mouth, the wine is silky, full-bodied and unfurling - the quality of the fruit sourcing shines through as the flavors linger on the finish. There's a brightness and energy here that I have found in many of the 2020 reds from Barossa (which is interesting, given the continuation of low yields and drought conditions, suggesting perhaps clever, adaptive viticulture at the fore). There's a friskiness that suggests a decant would be highly advisable... This is a ripper of a wine. Drink date: 2023-2040. Score - 96. (Erin Larkin, robertparker.com, April 6, 2023)
