Arak from Lebanon is a colorless, anise-flavored, high-proof spirit distilled from white grapes, such as Obeidi and Merwah, and is considered Lebanon's national drink. It is known for turning milky white when mixed with water due to the "louche effect" and is traditionally served with mezze (appetizers) and during social gatherings. The process involves fermenting grape juice, then triple-distilling the resulting spirit before adding aniseed, aging the mixture for at least a year in clay jugs, and finally diluting it to around 53% ABV
